Are Authorizers Missing Opportunities to Approve Excellent Schools?

When our educational landscape has a variety of public school options for families, every student can attend a school that meets their needs.

Authorizers have a significant impact on shaping which schools get the opportunity to serve children and families.

So why are there still so many students without access to a high-quality public school that delivers on the promise to give every child the education they need to succeed?

In our new report, Innovative and Diverse Charter Models: Addressing Policy Challenges, NACSA seeks to answer this very question. We gathered insights from authorizers and partners to:

  1. Understand why unique school models get approved or rejected; and
  1. Explore potential policy solutions to these challenges.

This report is the basis for future NACSA work as we continue on our journey of centering communities to ensure all students thrive.
