Our Vision
NACSA believes all children should attend high-quality schools. Our goal is by 2028 to see more than 1.5 million charter school students enrolled in exceptionally high-quality schools. This will be achieved through a combination of opening new high-quality charter schools, expanding enrollment in existing high-quality charters schools, and ensuring that charter schools that do not deliver on the promises to students and communities are improved or closed.
Our Three-Year Plan
Over the next three years, NACSA will improve student outcomes by advancing a shared vision of quality authorizing where foundational principles and practices are mastered and inform innovation.
NACSA will serve as a guiding light to authorizing by:
Developing learning and resources that
support a high-quality new school application
process resulting in more high-quality
schools; and oversight and intervention
practices that reinforce great performance
and address poor performance.
Deepening NACSA’s policy engagement to
meet the needs of an evolving sector.
Strengthening NACSA’s research foundation
to demonstrate that strong authorizing
leads to great student outcomes.
Creating learning and understanding spaces
for authorizing communities to broaden and
deepen impact on student outcomes.
Over the next three years NACSA will accomplish these goals if:
65% of new schools will be rated “high quality”
At least 30% of persistently under-performing schools are closed
Charter school enrollment increases by 15% (3-5% annually)
In early 2025, we will release an updated Model Charter School Application, to strengthen the application process.
