Authorizer Conversations: Joseph Escobedo on Virtual Site Visits and the Human Side of Authorizing

“When we talk about the human side, that was something I was not expecting. I was not expecting that I would need to provide emotional support to our charter leaders or that I would have to think about the trauma that our peers are going through, our colleagues are going through in the difficulty of not being able to connect like they would with the students.  I think that was probably career-changing for me in how we go about this.” -Joseph Escobedo

The Albuquerque Public Schools Office of School Choice oversees 31 schools throughout the district. Joseph Escobedo, Senior Director, shares the concerns of his staff, as well as some of their innovative responses to authorizing during COVID-19.

Hear more about what Joseph and his staff are doing to find a balance between support and accountability during a conversation with NACSA’s VP of Authorizer Engagement and Advancement, Amy Ruck Kagan.
